Barbed wire calculator: how many bundles do I need?
The SIMO Securon barbed wire calculator works out how many bundles of RTHT™ high tensile barbed wire (kantedar taar) your boundary needs, for any number of rows. It adds the concertina coils that go on top. Give your land in acres, guntha or any unit, or the boundary length, to see the barbed wire required and a transport range.

More about the barbed wire calculator
How the bundles are counted
The boundary comes from your land area and its shape, or from the length you give. Each row of barbed wire runs the whole boundary, with a little extra for the joins. The total is divided by the length of a bundle (200 m, 12 to 13 kg) and rounded up. Concertina coil is counted the same way, by the length of fence each coil covers once it is stretched out.
Kantedar taar and RTHT™ high tensile barbed wire
Kantedar taar is the everyday name for barbed wire. Most barbed wire sold for farms is soft galvanised wire. RTHT™ high tensile barbed wire is reverse twisted from high tensile wire, so it holds its tension between posts. See barbed wire for the types and the standards.
FAQ
Barbed wire calculator questions
How many barbed wire bundles do I need for 1 acre?
A square acre is about 255 m around, so each row of barbed wire round it takes about 255 m of wire. A bundle of RTHT™ high tensile barbed wire is 200 m, 12 to 13 kg. Put your rows in the calculator and it counts the bundles, with a little to spare for the joins.
What is RTHT™ high tensile barbed wire?
RTHT is SIMO Securon's reverse-twisted high tensile barbed wire. Its wire is 15.5 x 15.5 SWG with a Zeta Nova grade Zn-Al coating, and RTHT is rated for 15 years or more in C1 to C3 environments with correct installation.
RTHT™ high tensile barbed wireHow many rows of barbed wire should a farm fence have?
It depends on the animals and on whether the barbed wire stands alone or tops a knotted fence. On top of a fence, one to three rows on the post attachments is usual. For nilgai and cattle, a 6 ft knotted fence keeps them out better than barbed wire alone.
Does the calculator give a price?
