Perimeter fencing by site: farms, plots, solar plants, factories

Choose a perimeter fence by what it keeps out and how long it must last. SIMO Securon suggests a 6 ft Q-Knotâ„¢ fixed knot fence in Zeta Nova or Alpha for farms with nilgai, Alpha for solar plants, ZS-Knotâ„¢ (Anti Climb) for factories and data centres, and Zeta Nova at 5 ft for plots.

Which perimeter fencing suits each site?

Choose a fence by what it keeps out and how long it must last.

The suggested designs side by side

Each type of site has a suggested starting design, set by what the fence keeps out and how long it must last. It is a starting point for discussion, not for construction: every job is built to the drawing agreed for it.

Site The problem Suggested fence Posts and toppings Usual service
Farms and plantations Crop loss to nilgai (blue bull), wild boar, deer and stray cattle Q-Knot graduated grid: Zeta Nova or Alpha at 6 ft for nilgai and cattle; Pi for wild boar and smaller animals, 5 to 6 ft QvikFixrrâ„¢ GI angle posts every 5 m; RTHTâ„¢ barbed wire where people are also a problem Supply only with training, or supply and install
Plots, farmhouses and estates Marking and protecting a boundary without the civil work of a wall Zeta Nova Q-Knot, 5 ft QvikFixrr GI angle posts every 5 m; RTHT where security matters Site visit, then supply and install
Solar plants A high-value asset on a long perimeter, where replacing the fence mid-life is not an option Alpha Q-Knot, 6 ft QvikFixrr GI angle posts every 5 to 6 m; RTHT barbed wire Turnkey EPC
Factories, warehouses and data centres People climbing or cutting in ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) on the 4 x 2 inch anti-climb grid, Alpha, up to 8 ft QvikFixrr posts; custom posts for 8 ft on orders of 2 km and above; RTHT barbed wire and concertina coil Survey, then supply and install, or turnkey EPC
Highway, railway and utility corridors Cattle and people crossing; steel posts stolen for scrap Built to the authority’s specification; Alpha Q-Knot, 6 ft Pilferage-free: RCC posts and FRP angles to the required specification and applicable standards To the contract: supply, supply and install, or turnkey EPC
Forests, wildlife areas and zoos Secure containment with an open view Alpha or Zeta Nova Q-Knot, 8 ft Posts made to the design, on orders of 2 km and above Supply and install, or turnkey EPC

How do you choose a fence for your site?

Three questions decide most fence designs: what the fence keeps out, how long it must last and who will install it.

  1. What are you keeping out?Animals: Q-Knot. People: ZS-Knot (Anti Climb).
  2. How long must it last?Choose the grade by its rated life.
  3. Who will install it?Supply only, supply and install, or turnkey EPC.
The third option: conventional chainlink, SIMO Securon and a precast or masonry wallComparison graphic: conventional chainlink on the left (low upfront cost, short life), a precast or masonry wall on the right (heavy civil work, long build), and SIMO Securon in the middle as the third option. SIMO Securon sits between conventional galvanised chain link and a compound wall: stronger and longer-lasting than chain link, far lighter on civil work than a wall. Open the drawing full size: The third option: conventional chainlink, SIMO Securon and a precast or masonry wall
The three questions in full
  1. What are you keeping out? Animals: Q-Knot, on the graduated grid where wild boar and small animals push underneath. People: ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) on the 4 x 2 inch grid, with RTHT barbed wire or concertina coil on top.
  2. How long must it last? Alpha is rated for 35 years or more, Zeta Nova for 20 years and Pi for 10 years.
  3. Who will install it? Supply only, with training for your installer; supply and install by trained crews, which suits most sites because correct installation is what lets a fence reach its rated life; or turnkey EPC from survey to handover. See fencing supply, installation and EPC.

How many posts does a perimeter fence need?

Around half the postsTwo 30 metre fence runs are built side by side. Conventional chainlink needs a post every 2.5 metres, 13 posts in all. A SIMO Securon Q-Knot fixed knot fence stands its posts 5 metres apart, 7 posts in all: around half the posts.Conventional chainlink: a post every 2.5 m1 post2 posts3 posts4 posts5 posts6 posts7 posts8 posts9 posts10 posts11 posts12 posts13 posts2.5 mSIMO Securon Q-Knot: posts 5 to 6 m apart1 post2 posts3 posts4 posts5 posts6 posts7 posts5 mThe same 30 m runAROUND HALF THE POSTS

FAQ

Questions about fencing by site type

Which fence suits a plot or farmhouse?

For plots and farmhouses, SIMO Securon suggests Zeta Nova Q-Knot at 5 ft, with RTHT barbed wire where security matters, and at least 6 ft wherever nilgai or stray cattle come onto the land. Where the job is keeping people and animals out, it does the work of a compound wall: equivalent strength, twice as fast to install and far less civil work. A wall remains the right choice where privacy or noise matters most.

Plot boundary fencing without a wall

Which fence is used along highway and railway corridors?

Corridor fencing is built to the authority's or contractor's specification. SIMO Securon's suggested design is pilferage-free, for stretches where steel posts are stolen for scrap: RCC posts and FRP angles to the required specification and applicable standards, with Alpha Q-Knot at 6 ft.

Which fence suits a forest, zoo or wildlife area?

For forests, zoos and wildlife areas, SIMO Securon suggests an 8 ft Q-Knot fence in Alpha or Zeta Nova, which contains animals securely while keeping an open view, with posts made to the design on orders of 2 km and above.

Can SIMO Securon design a fence for an unusual site?

Yes. On fence supply orders of 2 km running length and above, SIMO Securon makes 8 ft posts, special foundations, security accessories and other designs to suit the site.
