358 mesh: the welded anti-climb panel, sourced to your specification
Last updated
358 mesh, sold as 358 anti-climb mesh, is a rigid welded panel with openings of 76.2 x 12.7 mm (3 x 0.5 inch) on 4 mm wire, too narrow for a finger or toe hold. It is specified to EN 10223-7 and IS 19363:2025, and priced per panel or per running metre. SIMO Securon sources it to your specification.
SIMO Securon does not manufacture 358 anti-climb mesh. We source it to your specification or drawing, invoice it to you and inspect it before dispatch, so what you receive meets your requirement. External testing or third-party inspection can be arranged on request, at extra cost. Sourced materials are supplied only, not installed, and take up to 45 days from order confirmation. Send us your specification, drawing and quantities, and we will come back with availability and a quotation.
What is 358 mesh?
358 mesh is a rigid panel of steel wires welded at every crossing, with openings of 76.2 x 12.7 mm (3 x 0.5 inch) centre to centre. The name comes from those inches and the wire: 3 inch, 0.5 inch, 8 gauge, about 4 mm. Buyers in India often call the 358 panel anti-climb mesh, and also prison mesh or high security mesh panel.
The narrow openings leave no finger or toe hold. Panels are fixed to posts with clamp bars and bolts, as a system.
- The wire: 4 mm in common 358 panels
- The weld: every crossing is resistance welded
- The mesh: 76.2 x 12.7 mm, centre to centre
358 mesh specifications: EN 10223-7
EN 10223-7 is the European standard for welded mesh panels, and IS 19363:2025 the Indian Standard for welded wire mesh fencing. The 358 panel’s figures:
| Specification | Figures from the standards |
|---|---|
| Mesh | 76.2 x 12.7 mm, centre to centre |
| Wire | 4 mm, resistance welded at every crossing |
| Panel height | To the height specified |
| Posts | About 2.44 m apart in common systems |
| Finish | Zinc, Zn-Al or polymer |
Specify the panel height, the finish and the system: panels only, or panels with posts, clamp bars and fixings. Where a security consultant has drawn the perimeter, send the drawing.
What sets the price of 358 mesh?
358 mesh is quoted per panel or per running metre of perimeter. The price depends on:
- The panel height: taller panels use more wire.
- The finish: zinc, Zn-Al, or a polymer coat over zinc.
- The system: panels only, or with posts, clamp bars and fixings.
- Toppings and gates, if the specification asks for them.
- The quantity and the delivery location.
To compare a price per panel with one per running metre, convert at the panel width:
358 anti-climb mesh or a 4 x 2 inch knotted fence?
Both answer people climbing with a narrow opening, and they are built differently. A 358 panel is rigid and welded, fixed panel by panel to posts about 2.44 m apart. SIMO Securon’s own ZS-Knot™ 4 x 2 inch knotted fence comes in rolls, with a separate knot wire locking every crossing.
Choose by what your specification asks for. Where a tender names 358 panels, SIMO Securon sources them. Where it asks for a narrow opening by size, wire and height, compare the two line by line in anti-climb fence: 4 x 2 knotted or 358 mesh?, or see the ZS-Knot 4 x 2 inch fence.

FAQ
358 mesh questions
What does 358 mean?
The name comes from the panel's mesh and wire in inches and gauge: 3 inch by 0.5 inch openings (76.2 x 12.7 mm, centre to centre) on 8 gauge wire, about 4 mm.
Is prison mesh the same as 358 mesh?
Usually, yes. Prison mesh and high security mesh panel are other names buyers use for the 358 welded panel. Specify it by its opening, wire, panel height and finish, not by the name.
How far apart are 358 mesh posts?
About 2.44 m apart in common 358 systems; the panel width and the system's drawing set the exact spacing. Ask for the posts, clamp bars and fixings with the panels, so the system is complete.
Does SIMO Securon make 358 mesh?
No. SIMO Securon sources 358 panels to your specification or drawing. Its own fence for people climbing is the ZS-Knot 4 x 2 inch knotted fence, supplied in rolls.
