How does SIMO Securon Alpha last so long?

Three things back Alpha's rated life: the coating mass, salt spray testing at an NABL-accredited laboratory, and correct installation.

The Alpha coating against standard galvanised wireCross-sections of four wires, not to scale. Standard galvanised wire carries 40 to 60 GSM zinc. SIMO Securon Pi carries 80 to 100 GSM zinc with a topcoat, Zeta Nova 120 GSM zinc-aluminium, and Alpha a minimum of 240 GSM zinc-aluminium, four to six times the coating mass of standard galvanised wire.NOT TO SCALEStandard galvanised40 to 60 GSM zincPI80 to 100 GSM zincwith topcoatSalt spray: about 200 h (estimate)ZETA NOVA120 GSM Zn-AlSalt spray: 1,200 h, no red rustALPHA240 GSM minimum Zn-AlSalt spray: 2,000 h, no red rustWire coreCoatingALPHA: FOUR TO SIX TIMES THE COATING MASS

    How rated life is calculated

Installing SIMO Securon Alpha in three steps

    1. Set the postsQvikFixrr GI angle posts every 5 to 6 m, with terminal and corner posts braced in concrete.
    2. Let the concrete cureTension the fence only once the concrete has cured.
    3. Fix and tensionFix the fabric with QvikFixrr clips and fabric locks; join rolls by splicing and twisting, never by welding.

Correct installation is a condition of Alpha’s rated life, so SIMO Securon recommends supply and install by its crews. Step by step: the fence installation guide.

Your price depends on the length, height, ground, posts, toppings and who installs it.

    More about SIMO Securon Alpha

Which sites is SIMO Securon Alpha for?

SIMO Securon Alpha is for perimeters you do not want to fence twice. It is the SIMO Securon grade with the longest rated life, 35 years or more.

    • Solar parks and renewable energy sites, where replacing a fence mid-life across kilometres of boundary is not an option. See solar plant fencing.
    • Factories, warehouses and data centres, with Alpha in the ZS-Knot 4 x 2 inch anti-climb grid, up to 8 ft, and RTHT barbed wire and concertina coil on top. See industrial fencing.
    • Highway, railway and utility corridors: suitable for corridor fencing, built to your tender specification and drawing. See highway and railway fencing.
    • Forest and wildlife boundaries, at 8 ft. See forest and wildlife fencing.
    • Farmhouses, estates and farms where the owner would rather fence once: a 6 ft Alpha fence keeps nilgai and cattle out. See farm fencing.

Why do project buyers specify the Alpha Zn-Al knotted fence?

Project buyers specify Alpha because every claim behind it can be checked:

    • Strength. Q-Knot wire in Alpha is 1150 to 1300 MPa, up to three times the 400 to 550 MPa of conventional galvanised chain link.
    • Fewer posts. Posts stand 5 to 6 m apart instead of 2.5 to 3 m for chain link, so a boundary needs around half the posts and installs about 40 percent faster than chain link.
    • Testing. Alpha is tested at NABL-accredited laboratories: tensile strength to IS 1608 (Part 1), salt spray to IS 9844, coating composition by X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and coating mass by gravimetric and gaseous volumetric methods. It is classified Class W10 to AS/NZS 4534:2006 and Class A to BS EN 10244-2:2001. See every test by grade and standard, and how a zinc-aluminium coating protects steel wire.
    • The manufacturer. SIMO Securon is India’s first manufacturer of Q-Knot and ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) fencing with Zn-Al coating. Alpha is made at MIDC Butibori, Nagpur, by SIMO WiroTEK Private Limited (formerly SIMO Screens Private Limited), which holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certificates.
    • Listed-company buyers. SIMO has supplied both Q-Knot and ZS-Knot to companies listed on an Indian stock exchange.

Test reports go to project buyers and consultants on request, through the form at the foot of this page.

How long does SIMO Securon Alpha last?

SIMO Securon Alpha is rated for 35 years or more with correct installation, against 2 to 5 years for conventional galvanised chain link in Indian conditions. Three things back that figure:

    1. Coating mass. Zn-Al 90/10, 240 GSM minimum: four to six times the 40 to 60 GSM on conventional galvanised wire.
    2. Salt spray. Tested to 2,000 hours salt spray without red rust (IS 9844), at an NABL-accredited laboratory.
    3. Correct installation. Posts free of rust, terminal and corner posts braced in concrete, and the fabric tensioned only once the concrete has cured. Store rolls closed, dry and off the ground, keep fertilisers and chemicals off the fence, and join rolls only by splicing and twisting the line wires, never by welding.

Alpha or Zeta Nova: which should you choose?

SIMO Securon Alpha is rated for 35 years or more and Zeta Nova for 20 years. Both use Q-Knot wire of 1150 to 1300 MPa; Alpha carries at least twice the coating and is tested to a longer salt spray.

    • Choose Alpha for the longest rated life: a long perimeter around a valuable asset, where replacing the fence mid-life is not an option.
    • Choose Zeta Nova where a 20-year rated life fits the plan, or where you need a 5 ft fence: Alpha is not made at 5 ft.

Q-Knot or ZS-Knot: which Alpha fence do you need?

Alpha is made in both SIMO Securon technologies: Q-Knot keeps animals out, and ZS-Knot keeps people out.

Technology Keeps out Wire strength Grids Heights
Q-Knot Animals: nilgai, wild boar, deer, cattle 1150 to 1300 MPa Graduated: 3.5 inches at the bottom to 7 inches at the top, a stay every 6 inches 6 ft standard; to order up to 8 ft
    ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) People climbing or cutting in 700 to 800 MPa 4 x 2 inch anti-climb; 4 x 4 inch; 3 x 3 inch 4 x 2 and 4 x 4 up to 8 ft; 3 x 3 up to 6 ft
Q-Knot graduated grid: horizontal wires close together at the bottom and wider apart at the top, with evenly spaced vertical stays and a knot at every crossing.
Q-Knot graduated grid: tightest at ground level, where animals push.

What heights and roll lengths does the Alpha knotted fence come in?

Alpha is made at 6 ft (1.8 m) as standard and to order at 8 ft (2.4 m), always in 50 m rolls. It is not made at 5 ft: for a 5 ft fence, choose the Zeta Nova knotted fence or the Pi knotted farm fence.

Height Line wires (Q-Knot) Roll length
    6 ft (1.8 m) 16 50 m
    8 ft (2.4 m), to order 19 50 m

One kilometre of Alpha takes 20 rolls. An 8 ft fence needs custom posts, which are made for fence supply orders of 2 km running length and above. ZS-Knot in Alpha comes in 50 m rolls, on every grid.

How is SIMO Securon Alpha installed?

Correct installation is a condition of Alpha’s rated life, so for most sites SIMO Securon recommends supply and install by its trained crews. Posts go every 5 to 6 m on QvikFixrr GI angle posts, terminal and corner posts are braced in concrete, and the fence is tensioned only once the concrete has cured. Post sizes and foundation depths are on the fence posts and fittings page.

There are three ways to buy: supply only, where your contractor installs and SIMO Securon trains the team on site; supply and install by SIMO Securon’s crews; or turnkey EPC, from site survey and design to installation, inspection and handover. See supply, installation and turnkey EPC.

Is Alpha more cost effective than chain link?

Over the life of the fence, SIMO Securon Alpha against conventional galvanised chain link: Up to 10 percent more cost effective, and longer lasting. Chain link costs less to buy, but its posts stand 2.5 to 3 metres apart; Alpha’s stand 5 to 6 m apart, so a boundary needs around half the posts, with less digging and concrete, and installation runs about 40 percent faster.

    FAQ

    Questions about SIMO Securon Alpha

Can SIMO Securon Alpha be used near the coast or a chemical works?

SIMO Securon Alpha's rated life of 35 years or more is for C1 to C3 environments (ISO 9223) with correct installation. ISO 9223 grades how corrosive the air is, from C1 (very low) to C5 and CX (very high and extreme). C1 to C3 typically covers inland rural areas, towns and cities, and light industry. Sites within 20 km of the coast, and chemically aggressive sites, are usually C4 or above and need a site-specific recommendation. Send your PIN code and SIMO Securon will advise on the design for your site.

Can Alpha be built to our tender or EPC specification?

Yes. SIMO Securon builds Alpha to your tender specification and the drawing agreed for the job, on a supply only, supply and install or turnkey EPC basis. On fence supply orders of 2 km running length and above, it also makes 8 ft posts, special foundations and security accessories to suit the site.

    Supply, installation and turnkey EPC

Can I see the test reports for Alpha?

Yes, if you are a project buyer or consultant. SIMO Securon Alpha is tested at NABL-accredited laboratories for tensile strength to IS 1608 (Part 1) and salt spray to IS 9844, and SIMO Securon sends the reports on request for your project file. They are not published online; the testing is described on the quality and testing page.

    Quality and testing

How much does an Alpha fence cost per km?

SIMO Securon prices Alpha for your site, because the height, posts, foundations, toppings and service set the cost. The quantities are fixed: Alpha comes in 50 m rolls, so a straight kilometre takes 20 rolls and 201 posts at a 5 metre gap, or about 168 at 6 metres. Send the perimeter for a bill of quantities and a price.
