Hexagonal wire netting for farms and fencing, sourced to your specification
Last updated
Hexagonal wire netting is thin zinc-coated wire twisted into six-sided openings and sold in rolls, for poultry, rabbits, gardens and light fencing. It is specified to EN 10223-2 or IS 3150:1982 by mesh (10 to 100 mm), wire (0.6 to 1.6 mm), roll width and coating, and priced per roll. SIMO Securon sources it.
SIMO Securon does not manufacture hexagonal wire netting. We source it to your specification or drawing, invoice it to you and inspect it before dispatch, so what you receive meets your requirement. External testing or third-party inspection can be arranged on request, at extra cost. Sourced materials are supplied only, not installed, and take up to 45 days from order confirmation. Send us your specification, drawing and quantities, and we will come back with availability and a quotation.
What is hexagonal wire netting?
Hexagonal wire netting is thin zinc-coated wire woven so that neighbouring wires twist round each other, leaving six-sided openings. It is light, comes in rolls, and is fixed to posts or a frame. Buyers also call it wire netting, rabbit netting or chicken wire mesh.
It is used on farms and in gardens: poultry runs and coops, rabbit and small-animal enclosures, nursery and garden fencing, and as a light lining on another fence.
- The twist: neighbouring wires twisted round each other
- The mesh size, across the opening between two twists
Hexagonal wire netting specifications: EN 10223-2
EN 10223-2 is the European standard for hexagonal netting for agricultural, insulation and fencing use, and IS 3150:1982 the Indian Standard. The figures to choose from:
| Specification | Figures from the standards |
|---|---|
| Mesh | 10 to 100 mm |
| Wire | Zinc-coated, 0.6 to 1.6 mm |
| Roll width | 300 to 2,000 mm |
| Coating | Galvanised before weaving (class A zinc) or after weaving; or PVC over a 0.6 to 1.2 mm core |
A complete specification names the mesh, the wire diameter, the roll width and length, and the coating: zinc before or after weaving, or PVC.
What sets the price of hexagonal wire netting?
Wire netting is quoted per roll, per metre or per kg. The price depends on:
- The mesh size: a smaller opening uses more wire per square metre.
- The wire diameter: from 0.6 to 1.6 mm.
- The roll width and length.
- The coating: zinc before or after weaving, or PVC over a core wire.
- The quantity and the delivery location.
To work out how much fence a number of rolls covers:
Where wire netting fits, and where it does not
Wire netting keeps small animals and birds in or out. It is light, so it is not built to hold back the push of nilgai, wild boar or cattle:
- For a farm boundary against large animals, a high tensile fixed knot fence, which SIMO Securon makes itself, takes the load; see farm fencing.
- For small, even openings in a stiffer mesh, see weld mesh.
- For stone-filled cages and river protection, the heavier double-twisted mesh is on gabions.
How a wire netting order works
- Send your specification or drawing for the wire netting, with the quantities and the delivery location. Name the standard if your specification names one.
- We come back with availability and a quotation. On your order, SIMO Securon invoices you and is your single point of contact for it, including any issue with the material against the agreed specification.
- We inspect it before dispatch. External testing or third-party inspection can be arranged on request, at extra cost.
- It takes up to 45 days from order confirmation. Sourced materials are supplied only, not installed.
For a knotted fence worked out for your boundary, with its posts, use the fencing cost estimator. For the other materials SIMO Securon sources, see fencing materials we source.

FAQ
Hexagonal wire netting questions
What mesh size of wire netting do I need?
The smaller the animal or bird, the smaller the mesh: EN 10223-2 netting runs from 10 to 100 mm. Tell us what the netting must keep in or out, and its height, and we suggest a mesh and wire.
Galvanised before or after weaving: what is the difference?
Galvanised before weaving, the wire is zinc-coated first and then twisted into netting; EN 10223-2 sets class A zinc for it. Galvanised after weaving, the zinc goes on the finished netting, twists included. Your specification says which.
Is PVC-coated wire netting available?
Yes: EN 10223-2 netting can carry PVC over a 0.6 to 1.2 mm core wire. Name the core wire and the colour in your specification.
Does SIMO Securon install wire netting?
No. Hexagonal wire netting is a sourced material: SIMO Securon supplies it, and you or your contractor fit it. Send the number of rolls or the length, and the delivery location.
