High tensile chain link: wire above 600 N/mm², in any grade
Last updated
High tensile chain link is woven from wire with a tensile strength above 600 N/mm², the high-tensile class of the European standard EN 10223-6. Ordinary chain link wire is 400 to 550 MPa. SIMO Securon makes high tensile chain link in its Alpha, Zeta Nova and Pi grades, for perimeters where a stronger mesh is worth its cost.
What makes chain link high tensile?
Tensile strength is how hard a wire can be pulled before it breaks, in N/mm² (newtons per square millimetre, the same as MPa). EN 10223-6, the European standard for chain link fencing, splits chain link wire into two classes:
- Low tensile: up to 600 N/mm².
- High tensile: above 600 N/mm².
The Indian Standard, IS 2721:2025, specifies galvanised chain link wire to IS 280 at 400 to 550 MPa: low tensile, in EN 10223-6’s terms. That is the wire in most chain link, also sold as cyclone fence or jali. High tensile chain link uses a stronger wire, so the same mesh carries more load before a wire gives way.
High tensile chain link grades and rated life
SIMO Securon makes high tensile chain link in any of its grades. The wire sets the strength; the grade sets the coating, and so the rated life.
| Grade | Coating | Rated life (C1 to C3, ISO 9223) |
|---|---|---|
| SIMO Securon Alpha | Zn-Al 90/10, 240 GSM minimum | 35+ years |
| SIMO Securon Zeta Nova | Zn-Al 90/10, 120 GSM | 20 years |
| SIMO Securon Pi | Zinc, 80 to 100 GSM, with topcoat | 10 years |
Rated life assumes correct installation; sites within 20 km of the coast, or chemically aggressive sites, need a site-specific recommendation.
- The wire: high tensile above 600 N/mm², its diameter in mm
- The mesh size, measured across a diamond between two parallel sides
Where does high tensile chain link earn its cost?
A stronger wire costs more, so choose it where the mesh takes real load:
- Perimeters that are pushed or leaned on, such as yards, depots and sports grounds.
- Tall fences, where the mesh carries more of its own weight; see heavy duty chain link for thicker wire.
- Specifications that call for high tensile wire, under EN 10223-6 or a project’s own drawing.
Two honest limits. A stronger wire does not change how chain link is built: it is still a diamond mesh, on posts every 2.5 to 3 m. And where people climbing over is the threat, the purpose-built answer is a ZS-Knot™ 4 x 2 inch anti-climb fence; for a long boundary against animals, a fixed knot fence needs around half the posts.
How do you order high tensile chain link?
Tell us the grade, the wire, the mesh size, the height and the length, and ask for the tensile strength you need in writing. SIMO Securon makes chain link to its own grades, and builds any order to IS 2721:2025 or EN 10223-6:2012 when your specification calls for it. SIMO inspects every order; external testing and third-party inspection are available on request, at extra cost.
It comes supply only, or supplied and installed by SIMO Securon’s crews anywhere in India. For how chain link is quoted, see chain link fencing price; to see how many posts chain link needs on your boundary, beside a knotted fence, use the fencing cost estimator.

FAQ
High tensile chain link questions
What is the tensile strength of high tensile chain link?
Above 600 N/mm² (the same as 600 MPa): EN 10223-6, the European standard for chain link fencing, calls chain link wire up to 600 N/mm² low tensile and above it high tensile. Ordinary galvanised chain link wire to IS 2721 is 400 to 550 MPa. Ask any supplier to state the tensile strength in writing.
Does high tensile chain link stop people climbing over?
Not on its own. A stronger wire makes a stronger mesh, but chain link is still a diamond mesh. Where people climbing over is the threat, SIMO Securon's answer is the ZS-Knot 4 x 2 inch anti-climb knotted fence, whose narrow gaps leave no toe or finger hold.
ZS-Knot anti-climb fenceDoes high tensile chain link need fewer posts?
No. Like any chain link, it needs a post every 2.5 to 3 m, because the woven mesh has no knots to keep it rigid. A high tensile knotted fence stands its posts 5 to 6 metres apart.
Fixed knot fenceWhat grade does high tensile chain link come in?
Any of SIMO Securon's grades: Alpha, Zeta Nova or Pi. The grade sets the coating and the rated life (35 years or more, 20 years and 10 years respectively, in C1 to C3 environments with correct installation); the high tensile wire sets the strength.
