Concertina coil is razor wire formed into coils that sit on top of a fence, to stop people climbing over. SIMO Securon supplies it with the QvikFixrr™ fence system: coils of 450 to 1,000 mm across, on a 2.5 mm high-tensile core wire, with a galvanised blade 0.4 to 0.6 mm thick.
What is concertina coil?
Concertina coil is razor wire, a steel strip with sharp blades crimped onto a strong core wire, formed into coils. Clipped together, the coils open out along the top of a fence like the folds of a concertina. It makes a fence far harder to climb over, so it goes where people, not animals, are the threat: factories, warehouses, data centres and other high-value sites.
SIMO Securon supplies concertina coil as part of its QvikFixrr range. It sits in the attachments of QvikFixrr posts, above the fence fabric, so the posts, the fence and the topping come as one system.

A larger coil makes a deeper barrier on top of the fence; the blade profile sets how close together the blades sit. Your specification or drawing usually names both. If it does not, tell us the fence and the site, and we suggest a coil.
Razor wire or barbed wire: which goes on top?
Both sit on top of a fence, in the same post attachments.
- Barbed wire runs in straight strands, two twisted wires with barbs. It is simpler to fit and suits a boundary where people are an occasional threat. SIMO Securon makes its own RTHT high tensile barbed wire; see barbed wire for how it is priced.
- Concertina coil is razor wire in coils, a deeper barrier against climbing over, for sites where people are the main threat.

What sets the price of concertina coil?
Concertina coil is quoted per coil or per running metre of boundary. The price depends on:
- The coil diameter: a larger coil uses more blade and core wire
- The blade profile and its thickness
- The length of the boundary
- The posts and fittings, if they are part of the order
- Where it goes: the delivery location

How concertina coil is supplied
Concertina coil comes with the QvikFixrr fence system: posts on a standard 8.5 ft shaft with attachments for barbed wire and concertina coil, clips, fabric locks and fasteners, and the fence fabric.
