Highway fencing and railway boundary fencing, built to your specification

Last updated

Highway fencing and railway boundary fencing keep animals and people off the corridor, on posts with no scrap value to thieves. SIMO Securon proposes a pilferage-free design: an Alpha Q-Knot™ fixed knot fence on RCC posts and FRP angles to the required specification and applicable standards, backed by NABL-accredited laboratory test reports, a trial panel and works inspection.

Which highway fencing do we suggest?

Cattle and people crossing; steel posts stolen for scrap. Designs shown are a starting point for discussion, not for construction.

What is a pilferage-free fence on RCC fencing poles?

A pilferage-free fence design uses RCC posts (cement poles) and FRP angles, to the required specification and applicable standards, where steel posts are at risk of theft: neither has scrap value. The suggested pairing is SIMO Securon Alpha, Q-Knot, 6 ft.

Chain link, a knotted fence or a wall for a corridor?

  • Conventional chain link: woven diamond mesh on posts every 2.5 metres.

    Conventional chain link

    • Lowest cost at the start.
    • Corrodes in 2 to 5 years in Indian conditions.
    • Posts 2.5 to 3 m apart.
  • Precast or masonry wall

    • Gives privacy and screening.
    • Heavy civil work over many kilometres.
    • The right answer where privacy or noise is the need.

How long will a corridor fence last?

SIMO Securon Alpha: 35+ years rated life in C1 to C3 environments (ISO 9223). Zn-Al 90/10, 240 GSM minimum.
  • SIMO Securon Alpha is rated for 35 years or more.

More about highway and railway fencing

What does highway and railway boundary fencing have to do?

Highway and railway boundary fencing has three jobs: keep cattle and wild animals off the carriageway or track, keep people from crossing where they should not, and keep its own posts. Most fences fail at least one of them:

  • Animals on the carriageway or track cause animal-vehicle collisions, cattle run-over, delays and liability.
  • People crossing the carriageway or track at unauthorised points put themselves and traffic at risk.
  • Steel posts are stolen for scrap along remote corridors, and every missing post is a gap in the fence.

Over many kilometres, the fence also has to last: replacing corroded conventional galvanised chain link every few years along a live corridor is costly and disruptive.

How does SIMO Securon work to a tender specification?

Every corridor job is built to the authority’s drawings, specification and applicable standards. SIMO Securon takes every geometry, from grid and height to post section, spacing and foundations, from the drawing for the job rather than from its product literature, responds clause by clause, and identifies anything it would propose differently.

Specification item What SIMO Securon proposes
Fabric Q-Knot fixed knot fence, with the grid taken from the drawing for the job
Anti-climb stretches ZS-Knot™ 4 x 2 inch grid, up to 8 ft, 700 to 800 MPa wire

What test reports and inspections can specifiers ask for?

Specifiers can ask SIMO Securon for test reports from NABL-accredited laboratories, a trial panel, an inspection of manufacture and testing at its works in Butibori, Nagpur, and its certificates.

  • Test reports from NABL-accredited laboratories, sent to project teams on request. Report files are not published online.
  • A trial panel, so your engineers can see and test the fence before a decision.
  • Works inspection: an open invitation to witness manufacture and testing at the works in Butibori, with pre-despatch inspection accepted.
  • Certified management systems: ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. See the ISO certificates and their scope.
  • Volume and programme: SIMO WiroTEK Private Limited has a production capacity of 28,500 MT per annum. About 7 days for standard rolls and 30 to 45 days for custom projects, from order confirmation.

Supply only, supply and install, or turnkey EPC for a corridor?

On corridor projects, SIMO Securon works as supply only (to the contractor’s installation team, with training), supply and install, or turnkey EPC from survey to handover. Fence supply orders of 2 km running length and above can have custom posts, foundations and designs made to suit the corridor. See supply, installation and EPC for projects.

FAQ

Highway and railway boundary fencing questions

Which standards is SIMO Securon Alpha wire tested and classified to?

SIMO Securon Alpha wire is tested at NABL-accredited laboratories for tensile strength to IS 1608 (Part 1) and salt spray to IS 9844, with a minimum of 2,000 hours without red rust. Its coating composition is checked by X-ray fluorescence, and Alpha is classified Class W10 to AS/NZS 4534:2006 and Class A to BS EN 10244-2:2001.

Quality and testing

What height is a highway or railway boundary fence?

SIMO Securon takes the height from the authority's drawing for the job. Its suggested pilferage-free design is Alpha Q-Knot at 6 ft; Alpha is also made up to 8 ft (2.4 m) to order, with 19 line wires at 8 ft.

Where on a corridor is the ZS-Knot 4 x 2 inch anti-climb grid used?

SIMO Securon suggests it where the threat is people rather than animals: interchanges, toll plazas, service road frontages and built-up stretches. SIMO Securon ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) has a 4 x 2 inch grid too narrow for a toe or finger hold, up to 8 ft high, in Alpha or Zeta Nova, with wire of 700 to 800 MPa.

ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) fence

What post spacing does a highway or railway fence use?

The authority's drawing sets it: SIMO Securon takes the post section, spacing and foundations from the drawing for the job. Where a drawing allows it, SIMO Securon's knotted fence stands its posts 5 to 6 m apart, against 2.5 to 3 metres for conventional galvanised chain link.

Can SIMO Securon supply a contractor directly?

Yes: SIMO Securon supplies contractors directly from its works in Butibori, Nagpur. On a supply-only order, an on-site trainer can work alongside the contractor's installation team on tensioning, bracing and fixing, backed by instructional videos.
