How does SIMO Securon Pi last?
Pi's rated life comes from its zinc coating with a topcoat, on Q-Knot wire tested at NABL-accredited laboratories, with correct installation.
Is SIMO Securon Pi the right fence for you?
Choose by the animals you face. Pi is made in Q-Knot only, at 5 ft and 6 ft.
Wild boar and smaller animals
Pi suits them, at 5 to 6 ft with the wires tight at ground level. Build your Pi fence.
Nilgai and cattle
SIMO Securon suggests Zeta Nova or Alpha at 6 ft, with stronger wire and a Zn-Al coating.
A factory, solar park or long perimeter
See Alpha, the grade with the longest rated life, also made in ZS-Knot™ (Anti Climb).
Installing SIMO Securon Pi in three steps
- Set the postsAngle posts every 5 m, with terminal and corner posts braced in concrete.
- Let the concrete cureTension the fence only once the concrete has cured.
- Fix and tensionFix the fabric to rust-free posts with QvikFixrr clips and fabric locks.
Correct installation is a condition of Pi’s rated life: your own workers can install it, with a SIMO Securon trainer alongside them. Step by step: the fence installation guide.
Your price depends on the length, height, ground, posts, toppings and who installs it.

More about SIMO Securon Pi
Who is SIMO Securon Pi for?
SIMO Securon Pi is for farmers and plot owners who need a strong fence now, on a budget, and want it to outlast chain link. It is rated for 10 years, against 2 to 5 years for conventional galvanised chain link (jali) in Indian conditions.
- Farms and plantations losing crops to wild boar (jungli suar), deer and stray animals, at 5 to 6 ft. Pi suits wild boar and smaller animals; for nilgai and cattle, SIMO Securon suggests the Zeta Nova knotted fence or the Alpha knotted fence at 6 ft. See farm fencing and how to protect crops from nilgai and wild boar.
- Commercial plots and general boundaries that need clear, secure demarcation. See plot boundary fencing.
Pi is not made in ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) or above 6 ft. For a factory, solar park or long perimeter, see Alpha, the grade with the longest rated life.
How long does a Pi fence last?
SIMO Securon Pi is rated for 10 years with correct installation. The evidence:
- Coating. Zinc, 80 to 100 GSM, with topcoat, against 40 to 60 GSM on conventional galvanised wire.
- Laboratory testing. Tested at NABL-accredited laboratories for tensile strength and coating mass. See how each grade is tested.
- Salt spray. An estimate, not a test result: about 200 hours salt spray to red rust (estimated from the coating specification).
The rated life holds with correct installation: posts free of rust, braced corners and ends, tension applied only once the concrete has cured, rolls stored dry before fitting, and fertilisers and chemicals kept off the fence.
| Product | Rated life |

| SIMO Securon Alpha | 35+ years |
| SIMO Securon Zeta Nova | 20 years |
| SIMO Securon Pi | 10 years |
| RTHT barbed wire, Zeta Nova grade | 15+ years |
| Conventional galvanised chain link | 2 to 5 years |
Pi or Zeta Nova: which should you choose for a farm?
Choose Pi if budget matters most and wild boar or smaller animals are the problem. Choose Zeta Nova for a longer rated life, stronger wire and a zinc-aluminium coating, and for nilgai and cattle.
- SIMO Securon Pi is rated for 10 years, with Q-Knot wire of 850 to 900 MPa and a zinc coating with a topcoat.
- SIMO Securon Zeta Nova is rated for 20 years, with Q-Knot wire of 1150 to 1300 MPa and a zinc-aluminium (Zn-Al) coating. The coating, not the wire, is what gives it the longer rated life.
| Specification | Pi | Zeta Nova |
|---|---|---|
| Rated life | 10 years | 20 years |
| Coating | Zinc, 80 to 100 GSM, with topcoat | Zn-Al 90/10, 120 GSM |
| Tensile strength (Q-Knot) | 850 to 900 MPa | 1150 to 1300 MPa |
| Salt spray | About 200 hours to red rust (estimated from the coating specification) | 1,200 hours without red rust (tested) |
| Standard heights | 5 ft and 6 ft | 5 ft and 6 ft |
| Custom height | 5 ft and 6 ft only | Up to 8 ft (2.4 m) |
| Technologies | Q-Knot only | Q-Knot and ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) |
| Roll length (Q-Knot) | 100 ft (30.5 m) | 30 m |
How does a Pi fence keep animals out?
A Pi fence keeps animals out with Q-Knot, the fixed knot: a separate length of wire is wrapped around every crossing, so the knot cannot slip, and the deep-crimped line wires let the fence spring back after an animal pushes against it. The wires sit closest together at the bottom, where wild boar push, and wider apart at the top.
- Stay wire: the vertical wire that sets the grid and carries the knot
- Deep-crimped line wire: acts as a spring, keeps the fence tight and lets it recover after impact
- Fixed knot: formed from a separate length of wire, so it cannot slip
What heights and roll lengths does the Pi knotted fence come in?
Pi is made at 5 ft and 6 ft only, in 100 ft (30.5 m) rolls. Pi suits wild boar and smaller animals at either height; where nilgai or cattle are the problem, SIMO Securon suggests Zeta Nova, with its Zn-Al coating, or Alpha at 6 ft.
| Height | Line wires | Roll length |
|---|---|---|
| 5 ft (1.5 m) | 14 | 100 ft (30.5 m) |
| 6 ft (1.8 m) | 16 | 100 ft (30.5 m) |
How many rolls of Pi fence do you need per acre?
A square acre is about 255 metres around, so it takes 9 rolls of Pi and about 51 posts (poles) at 5 m. For any field, divide the boundary length by the 100 ft (30.5 m) roll and round up:
| Land (square) | Boundary, about | Rolls of 100 ft (30.5 m) | Posts at 5 m |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 acre | 255 m | 9 | 51 |
| 2 acres | 360 m | 12 | 72 |
| 5 acres | 569 m | 19 | 114 |
| 10 acres | 805 m | 27 | 161 |
At 2.5 metres, conventional galvanised chain link would need about 102 posts for the same acre. Bracing for the corner and end posts comes on top, and long, narrow fields need more fence for the same area. The fencing cost estimator works out the rolls and posts for your land, and fencing cost per acre explains each step.
How is a Pi fence installed?
Correct installation is a condition of Pi’s rated life, and the standard is the same as for every SIMO Securon grade. Posts go every 5 m on angle posts, terminal and corner posts are braced in concrete, and the fence is tensioned only once the concrete has cured. Post sizes and foundation depths are on the QvikFixrr fence posts page.
Your own workers can install Pi: with a supply-only order, SIMO Securon can send a trainer to work alongside them, with instructional videos to return to. Or SIMO Securon’s crews can supply and install it. See fencing supply and installation services.
Is Pi more cost effective than chain link?
Over the life of the fence, SIMO Securon Pi against conventional galvanised chain link: Up to 30 percent more cost effective, and it is rated to last longer. Chain link costs less to buy, but it needs a post every 2.5 to 3 metres; Pi needs one every 5 m, so around half the posts, with less digging and concrete.
The fencing cost estimator works out your rolls and posts and sends your price on WhatsApp. For the full comparison, read knotted fence vs chain link.

FAQ
Questions about SIMO Securon Pi
Does Pi suit a coastal or chemically aggressive site?
SIMO Securon Pi's rated life of 10 years is for C1 to C3 environments (ISO 9223) with correct installation. ISO 9223 grades how corrosive the air is, from C1 (very low) to C5 and CX (very high and extreme). C1 to C3 typically covers inland rural areas, towns and cities, and light industry. Sites within 20 km of the coast, and chemically aggressive sites, are usually C4 or above and need a site-specific recommendation. Send your PIN code and SIMO Securon will suggest the right fence for the site.
Can I get Pi with the 4 x 2 inch anti-climb grid?
No. SIMO Securon makes ZS-Knot (Anti Climb), with its 4 x 2 inch grid, in Alpha and Zeta Nova only. Pi is made with Q-Knot, which is designed to keep animals out.
ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) fenceCan Pi be made taller than 6 ft?
No. SIMO Securon Pi is made in 5 ft and 6 ft only. For a forest, wildlife or security boundary up to 8 ft, choose Zeta Nova or Alpha, on custom posts made for fence supply orders of 2 km running length and above.
SIMO Securon Zeta NovaHow much does a Pi fence cost per acre?
The quantities come first: a square acre is about 255 metres (about 840 running feet) around, so it takes 9 rolls of Pi and about 51 posts at a 5 metre gap. The price then depends on the height, the corners and gates, and who installs it, so SIMO Securon sends your exact price on WhatsApp once it knows these.
Fencing cost per acre in IndiaWhere can I buy SIMO Securon Pi?
Directly from SIMO Securon, or from an authorised SIMO Securon dealer near you. Call or WhatsApp +91 93730 08466 with your PIN code and the team tells you the nearest way to buy, and whether supply only or supply and install suits your farm.
Does Pi suit a farm with nilgai?
For nilgai and cattle, SIMO Securon suggests Zeta Nova or Alpha at 6 ft rather than Pi: their Q-Knot wire is 1150 to 1300 MPa, against 850 to 900 MPa in Pi, and nilgai need a fence at least 6 ft (1.8 m) high that does not bend or sag. SIMO Securon Pi suits wild boar and smaller animals, at 5 or 6 ft.
