Plot boundary fencing: fence your plot or farmhouse without a compound wall

Last updated

Plot boundary fencing for an open plot, farmhouse or estate can do the job of a compound wall: a high tensile Q-Knot™ fixed knot fence on posts every 5 m has equivalent strength, goes up twice as fast and needs far less civil work. SIMO Securon suggests Zeta Nova, 5 ft. Choose a wall where privacy matters most.

Boundary fencing for a plot: why fence instead of building a wall?

A high tensile knotted fence marks and protects a plot boundary with the strength of a compound wall, on a post every 5 m instead of a continuous foundation. It goes up twice as fast and needs far less civil work. Over a large parcel, most of the work in a wall buys privacy you may not need.

Chain link, a knotted fence or a wall for your plot?

  • Conventional chain link: woven diamond mesh on posts every 2.5 metres.

    Conventional chain link

    • Lowest cost at the start.
    • Corrodes in 2 to 5 years in Indian conditions.
    • Posts 2.5 to 3 m apart.
  • Precast or masonry wall

    • Gives privacy and screening.
    • Needs a continuous foundation and a long build.
    • The right answer where privacy or noise is the need.

Is there a written guarantee on plot fencing?

Strong and secure: 5-year written guarantee for SIMO Securon Pi, conditions apply. Zinc, 80 to 100 GSM, with topcoat.Strong and secure: 10-year written guarantee for SIMO Securon Zeta Nova, conditions apply. Zn-Al 90/10, 120 GSM.Strong and secure: 20-year written guarantee for SIMO Securon Alpha, conditions apply. Zn-Al 90/10, 240 GSM minimum.

The written guarantee is SIMO's promise in writing to retail buyers: if the wire breaks due to red rust formation within the guarantee period, SIMO replaces it, on the terms and conditions. Register within 30 days of your invoice.

By grade, retail buyers of SIMO Securon receive a 5-year written guarantee for Pi, a 10-year written guarantee for Zeta Nova and a 20-year written guarantee for Alpha, against wire breakage due to red rust formation, counted from the invoice date.

Guarantee conditions

To keep the guarantee, buy from SIMO or an authorised SIMO partner, register your purchase within 30 days of the invoice, store the fence dry before installation, and have it installed professionally on posts free of rust, following our guidance. It does not cover sites within 20 km of the coast or other corrosive environments, contact with fertilisers or chemicals, welded or jointed fabric, impact or tool damage, natural disasters, or normal wear and tear. RTHT barbed wire and QvikFixrr products, chain link included, are outside the guarantee. Claims are made within 30 days of a defect, with the invoice, proof of registration and photographs. Terms and conditions apply; the full terms are on the guarantee page. Government and public sector projects are governed by the terms of the project contract.

When is a compound wall still the right answer?

If you need privacy, screening, noise reduction or resistance to vehicle impact, a wall is the right answer, and SIMO Securon will say so. A fence marks and protects the boundary but does not hide it. For the full comparison, read compound wall vs fencing. Where people climbing in is the main worry, see the 4 x 2 inch anti-climb grid on industrial fencing.

What height, posts and topping does a plot fence need?

SIMO Securon suggests a Zeta Nova Q-Knot fixed knot fence, 5 ft (1.5 m), on QvikFixrr GI angle posts (poles) every 5 m, with a strand of RTHT barbed wire on top where security matters more than looks. Zeta Nova is also made at 6 ft: choose 6 ft wherever nilgai (blue bull) or stray cattle come onto the land, as on farm fencing. Concrete (RCC) poles of at least 150 x 150 mm, in high-grade concrete, also meet SIMO’s installation standard.

Which grade suits a plot or farmhouse?

For most plots and farmhouses, SIMO Securon suggests the Zeta Nova knotted fence at 5 ft. The Alpha knotted fence carries the longest written guarantee, and the Pi knotted farm fence suits a plot fenced on a budget.

How many posts and rolls does a plot need?

A SIMO Securon plot fence needs a post every 5 m, against 2.5 to 3 metres for conventional galvanised chain link, and Zeta Nova comes in 30 m rolls. Fencing goes round the boundary, so measure the plot’s sides, not its area. For a few common plots:

Plot Boundary SIMO Securon posts at 5 m Chain link posts at 2.5 m Rolls of Zeta Nova
1,200 sq ft (30 x 40 ft) 43 m (140 ft) 9 18 2
1,000 m² square (about 10,800 sq ft) 127 m (about 420 ft) 26 51 5
2,000 m² square (about 21,500 sq ft) 179 m (about 590 ft) 36 72 6
1 acre square (43,560 sq ft) 255 m (about 840 ft) 51 102 9
2 acres square 360 m (about 1,180 ft) 72 144 12

Counts are rounded up. Add braced posts at the corners and on each side of a gate. The estimator works this out for your own plot.

How much does plot fencing cost?

The cost of a plot fence depends on the boundary length, the height, the grade, the corners and gates, and whether SIMO installs it, so your exact price comes once the team knows these. Conventional galvanised chain link costs less upfront. Measured against it over the life of the fence (see knotted fence vs chain link):

  • Zeta Nova, suggested for most plots: 10 to 20 percent more cost effective, and twice the life.
  • Pi, for demarcating a plot on a budget: Up to 30 percent more cost effective.
  • Alpha, for an estate you want to fence once: Up to 10 percent more cost effective, and longer lasting.

Send your boundary length, height and grade on WhatsApp (opens WhatsApp) for your exact price. For the method, read fencing cost in India.

How do the site visit and installation work?

On a site visit, the SIMO Securon team walks the boundary with you, notes levels, corners and gates, and agrees the line. Trained crews then install under one contract: posts set in concrete, terminal and corner posts braced, and the fence tensioned once the concrete has cured. Professional installation following SIMO’s guidance is a condition of the written guarantee, which is why SIMO Securon recommends supply and install by its trained crews for plots and farmhouses.

Developing a plotted layout or fencing several plots? On fence supply orders of 2 km running length and above, SIMO Securon makes custom posts and foundations to suit the land and includes one free set of installation tools per project (terms and conditions apply).

FAQ

Plot boundary fencing questions

How much does plot fencing cost per sq ft?

Fencing is priced along the boundary, not over the area. A 1,200 sq ft plot (30 x 40 ft) is about 140 running feet around, so it needs about 43 metres of fence, 9 posts at a 5 metre gap and 2 rolls of Zeta Nova. The price then depends on the height, the grade, the gate and who installs it; send these on WhatsApp for your exact price.

Fencing cost in India, per sq ft and per acre

How far apart are the posts on a plot fence?

A SIMO Securon plot fence in Zeta Nova has a post every 5 metres, about 16 feet, against 2.5 to 3 metres for conventional galvanised chain link. Each post stands in its own concrete footing, so there is no continuous foundation to dig.

Does a plot fence need a foundation like a compound wall?

A SIMO Securon plot fence needs no continuous foundation: each post stands in its own concrete footing, with terminal posts at least 45 x 45 cm and 75 cm deep, braced with a 45 degree strut, and corner posts 60 x 60 cm and 75 cm deep, braced both ways. The fence is tensioned only once the concrete has fully cured.

QvikFixrr posts and fittings

Should a plot fence have barbed wire on top?

Where security matters more than looks, yes: SIMO Securon adds a strand of RTHT, its reverse-twisted high tensile barbed wire of 800 MPa in Zeta Nova grade Zn-Al coating, on the attachments of QvikFixrr posts, which come on a standard 8.5 ft shaft. Concertina coil can sit on the same attachments. RTHT barbed wire and QvikFixrr products are not covered by the written guarantee.

RTHT high tensile barbed wire

Do you fence plots outside Maharashtra?

Yes: SIMO Securon installs anywhere in India once an order is confirmed, arranging a crew for the site. It works from its head office and works in Nagpur and offices in Ahmedabad, Pune and Mumbai, open by appointment only. You can also buy from an authorised SIMO Securon dealer; buy from SIMO or an authorised dealer to keep the written guarantee.

How long does it take to fence a plot?

About 7 days for standard rolls and 30 to 45 days for custom projects, from order confirmation. A site visit comes first for supply and install, so the line, levels, corners and gates are agreed before the order. On site, a knotted fence goes up about twice as fast as a compound wall.
