Industrial fencing for factory boundaries, warehouses and data centres

Last updated

Industrial fencing for a factory boundary, warehouse or data centre must stop people climbing over or cutting in. SIMO Securon suggests a ZS-Knot™ anti-climb knotted fence on the 4 x 2 inch grid, too narrow for a toe or finger hold and knotted at every crossing, in Alpha, up to 8 ft, with RTHT™ barbed wire and concertina coil.

What does factory boundary fencing have to stop?

At a factory, warehouse, distribution centre or data centre, the threat is usually a person, not an animal: someone climbing over, cutting through, or taking stock and scrap out. The perimeter has to resist climbing and cutting, and stay tight for years. The Q-Knot™ fixed knot fence keeps animals out; ZS-Knot keeps people out.

Chain link, an anti-climb fence or a wall?

  • Conventional chain link: woven diamond mesh on posts every 2.5 metres.

    Conventional chain link

    • Costs little at the outset.
    • Its woven diamond is easy to cut and climb.
    • Corrodes in 2 to 5 years.
  • Precast or masonry wall

    • Resists climbing.
    • Heavy civil work and a long build.
    • The right answer where privacy or screening is the need.

More about industrial fencing

Why not chain link or a compound wall at a factory?

Conventional galvanised chain link costs little at the outset, but its woven diamond is easy to cut and climb and it corrodes in 2 to 5 years. A compound wall resists climbing, but it means heavy civil work and a long build. Where the need is privacy or screening rather than security, a wall is the right answer.

Where a long industrial boundary faces animals rather than people, a Zeta Nova Q-Knot fence suits it; keep the 4 x 2 inch anti-climb grid for the stretches where people climbing in is the threat.

What is the specification for a factory or data centre security fence?

For factories, data centres and other high-security sites, SIMO Securon proposes the ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) knotted fence on the 4 x 2 inch grid, in Alpha, up to 8 ft, with RTHT barbed wire and concertina coil, surveyed and installed as one package. ZS-Knot in Alpha is rated for 35 years or more; in Zeta Nova, 20 years.

Part Suggested Why
Fabric ZS-Knot 4 x 2 inch grid Vertical wires 2 inches apart: too narrow for a toe or finger hold
Grade Alpha; Zeta Nova where a 20-year rated life is enough Alpha: Zn-Al 90/10, 240 GSM minimum, rated for 35 years or more. ZS-Knot wire is 700 to 800 MPa in both grades
Height 6 ft on standard posts; up to 8 ft on custom posts 8 ft posts are made for orders of 2 km and above
Toppings RTHT barbed wire and QvikFixrr concertina coil A further barrier above the fabric, on the post attachments
Fixings QvikFixrr clips, flat bar fabric locks, M10 hot-dip galvanised fasteners The fabric is locked at every strain, terminal and corner post

Which grid is anti-climb: 4 x 2, 4 x 4 or 3 x 3 inch?

Only the 4 x 2 inch ZS-Knot grid is anti-climb: its stays sit 2 inches apart and its line wires 4 inches apart, so the openings are too narrow for a toe or finger hold. The 4 x 4 inch uniform grid and the 3 x 3 inch close grid are not anti-climb.

Grid Use Maximum height

3 x 3 inch Close grid, 25 line wires. Not anti-climb 6 ft

How high should a factory security fence be?

SIMO Securon makes ZS-Knot at 6 ft as standard, also at 5 ft in Zeta Nova, and up to 8 ft to order. A 6 ft fence fits the standard QvikFixrr 8.5 ft post with attachments for a topping; an 8 ft fence needs custom posts, made for fence supply orders of 2 km running length and above. The height is suggested after the site survey.

What does a complete security perimeter include?

A complete ZS-Knot perimeter is the fence fabric plus QvikFixrr posts, clips, fabric locks and fasteners, RTHT reverse-twisted high tensile barbed wire and QvikFixrr concertina coil, supplied together as one matched system.

A complete perimeter systemA fence bay builds up in order: a QvikFixrr terminal post, 65 x 65 x 6 mm; an intermediate post, 50 x 50 x 6 mm; a strut at 45 degrees; the fence fabric; QvikFixrr clips and fabric locks; RTHT barbed wire; and concertina coil on the post attachments.75 cm11QvikFixrr terminal post65 x 65 x 6 mm22Intermediate post50 x 50 x 6 mm33Strutat 45 degrees44Fence fabricQ-Knot or ZS-Knot55Clips and fabric locksQvikFixrr fittings66RTHT barbed wireon the post attachments77Concertina coilsecurity toppingONE SYSTEM

How is a security perimeter surveyed and installed?

For security perimeters, SIMO Securon usually works as supply and install, or turnkey EPC:

  1. Site survey: boundary length, levels, gates, existing walls and the threat you face.
  2. Design to the drawings agreed with you: grid, height, topping and post layout.
  3. Supply of the complete system: fabric, QvikFixrr posts and fittings, RTHT and concertina coil.
  4. Installation by trained crews.
  5. Inspection, then handover with documentation.

Lead times: About 7 days for standard rolls and 30 to 45 days for custom projects, from order confirmation. An 8 ft fence on custom posts is a custom project.

See fencing supply and installation services for supply only, with training for your own contractor.

What does industrial fencing cost?

SIMO Securon does not publish prices: they depend on the boundary length, height, grid, grade, toppings and terrain, and on whether SIMO installs the fence. With posts 5 to 6 m apart, the installed cost of a SIMO Securon perimeter comes out in line with conventional galvanised chain link, and installation runs around 40 percent faster. Chain link costs less to buy and suits low-risk boundaries; where people climbing in is the threat, specify the 4 x 2 inch grid.

Which industrial clients use SIMO Securon?

SIMO Securon supplied plant perimeter fencing for Solar Defence and Aerospace, Nagpur.

FAQ

Industrial fencing questions

Can part of a long factory boundary use Q-Knot instead of the ZS-Knot 4 x 2 inch anti-climb grid?

Yes: where a stretch of a long industrial boundary faces animals rather than people, SIMO Securon suggests a Q-Knot fence in Zeta Nova there, and the ZS-Knot 4 x 2 inch anti-climb grid where people climbing in is the threat. The site survey decides which stretch gets which.

Q-Knot fixed knot fence

Is ZS-Knot better than chain link for a factory?

It depends on the threat: SIMO Securon ZS-Knot on the 4 x 2 inch grid is built to stop climbers, and is rated for 35 years or more in Alpha or 20 years in Zeta Nova. Conventional galvanised chain link costs less to buy and suits low-risk boundaries, but its woven diamond is easier to cut and climb, and it corrodes in 2 to 5 years in Indian conditions.

Knotted fence or chain link

Is ZS-Knot suitable for data centres and defence sites?

Yes: SIMO Securon ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) is made for sites where the threat is a person climbing, including data centres, defence facilities and other high-security industrial sites. SIMO Securon surveys the site, designs to the drawings agreed with you, and supplies and installs the complete system.

Can barbed wire and concertina coil go on top of a security fence?

Yes: SIMO Securon supplies QvikFixrr posts on a standard 8.5 ft shaft with attachments for both barbed wire and concertina coil. Its RTHT barbed wire is 800 MPa high-tensile wire. QvikFixrr concertina coil (razor wire) comes in diameters from 450 mm to 1,000 mm, with a 2.5 mm high-tensile core wire and a galvanised blade 0.4 to 0.6 mm thick.

QvikFixrr posts, fittings and concertina coil

Can ZS-Knot be made in Zeta Nova instead of Alpha?

Yes: SIMO Securon makes ZS-Knot (Anti Climb) in Zeta Nova as well as Alpha, on the same 4 x 2 inch anti-climb grid and the same 700 to 800 MPa wire. Zeta Nova is rated for 20 years and Alpha for 35 years or more, so choose Zeta Nova where a 20-year rated life fits the plan. ZS-Knot is also made at 5 ft in Zeta Nova.
