Fencing cost per acre and per bigha in Rajasthan

Land in Rajasthan is often measured in bigha, and the bigha depends on the chain (jarib) the land was measured with. The Government of India’s land records data standard gives 165 by 165 feet (27,225 sq ft) for the Shahjahani jarib, and 132 by 132 feet (17,424 sq ft) for the Gantari jarib. The calculator offers each by its size. The fence follows the boundary:

Stray bulls, wild boar and nilgai: the fence for a Rajasthan farm

In eastern Rajasthan, Down To Earth reported in June 2026, farmers speak of the terror of stray bulls, wild boar and nilgai, and say stray bulls and wild boar have now overtaken nilgai. In western Rajasthan, donkeys, camels and wild boar are a major concern. The same report says the state’s Animal Welfare Board treats electric current in field fencing, and sharp, blade-like wires, as serious offences, because they injure wildlife such as chinkara and blackbuck.

  • Against stray bulls, nilgai and cattle: a 6 ft Q-Knot™ fixed knot fence, in Zeta Nova (20 years) or Alpha (35 years or more). It carries no current and no blades.
  • Against wild boar: the same fence on the graduated grid, tightest at the bottom.
  • For smaller animals and a shorter life: Pi (10 years).

No coastline: the C1 to C3 rated life applies

Rajasthan has no coastline, so the sea does not shorten a fence’s life here. The rated lives above apply in C1 to C3 environments with correct installation; near chemical works or heavy industry, ask for a site-specific recommendation. See how rated life is calculated.

Farm fencing subsidy in Rajasthan

Rajasthan's Khet ki Tarbandi (Kantedar Tarbandi Yojana) pays a share of the cost of fencing round a farmer's fields, up to a cap per farmer, with a larger share for small and marginal farmers and for groups of farmers who fence together; you apply on Raj Kisan Saathi. See the figures and the official source.

SIMO Securon does not run these schemes and cannot confirm your eligibility. Many schemes name barbed wire or solar fencing as the fence they pay for. Before you buy, ask the officer whether a knotted fence qualifies. SIMO Securon can give a quotation and invoice in the form the officer asks for.

Scheme details last checked on their official pages on .

FAQ

Fencing cost per acre in Rajasthan: questions

How big is a bigha in Rajasthan?

It depends on the chain the land was measured with. The Government of India's land records data standard gives two Rajasthan bighas: 165 by 165 feet (27,225 sq ft) with the Shahjahani jarib, and 132 by 132 feet (17,424 sq ft) with the Gantari jarib. Check your land record for which applies.

How much fence does a bigha need?

A square bigha of 165 by 165 feet is about 200 metres around; one of 132 by 132 feet about 161 metres. Ten such bighas need only about three times the fence of one, because the boundary grows with the square root of the area.

Which fence stops stray bulls and nilgai?

A 6 ft fence, tight at the bottom: SIMO Securon suggests a 6 ft Q-Knot™ fixed knot fence in Zeta Nova or Alpha on the graduated grid. It carries no electric current and no blades, and its posts stand 5 metres apart.

Is there a fencing subsidy in Rajasthan?

Yes. Khet ki Tarbandi (Kantedar Tarbandi Yojana) pays a share of the cost of fencing round a farmer's fields, up to a cap per farmer. Small and marginal farmers and groups get a larger share. You apply on Raj Kisan Saathi.
