Wild boar, peafowl and deer: the fence for a Tamil Nadu farm
Down To Earth reported in March 2026 on a study in Tamil Nadu’s Western Ghats that found crops damaged mainly by wild boar, peafowl and elephants. In June 2026 it reported that in parts of the Eastern Ghats and the delta, wild boar and deer cause repeated crop losses. Near reserve forests, the forest department zones its response to wild boar by the distance from the forest, as DT Next reported in March 2025.

A ground is 2,400 sq ft, as Tamil Nadu's Urban Land Tax Act defines it. A square ground is about 15 metres a side and about 60 metres around. It is a city plot unit; farms are measured in acres and cents.
