Which animals raid crops in Maharashtra?

Maharashtra’s own law lists them. The state’s 2023 Act on compensation for damage by wild animals names, among others, the wild pig, elephant, deer, nilgai (blue bull), monkey and langur, and covers damage to crops and fruit plants. In July 2025 the Forests Minister told the Legislative Council that crops were still being damaged by wild boars, gaurs and even elephants. Around the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Chandrapur, a study reported by Mongabay-India in 2026 found wild pigs the most common raiders, with nilgai a major problem further from the forest.

For a Vidarbha or Marathwada farm with nilgai and wild pig, SIMO Securon suggests a 6 ft Q-Knot fixed knot fence in Zeta Nova or Alpha on the graduated grid: its bottom wires sit 3.5 inches apart, where wild pigs push, and posts stand 5 metres apart. More in farm fencing and the nilgai and wild boar guide.

Which sites in Maharashtra need a perimeter fence?

  • Solar parks. On 28 February 2025, four parks in Maharashtra were sanctioned under the national Solar Parks Scheme: Sai Guru (500 MW) and Dondaicha (250 MW) in Dhule, Patoda (250 MW) in Beed, and the Erai floating solar park (105 MW) in Chandrapur. For solar sites SIMO Securon suggests a 6 ft Q-Knot fence with RTHT™ barbed wire where animals are the threat, and the ZS-Knot™ 4 x 2 inch anti-climb fence where people are: see solar plant fencing.
  • Industrial estates. MIDC has set up about 300 industrial areas across the state. On the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, the AURIC township at Shendra and Bidkin near Aurangabad covers 10,000 acres, and the Dighi Port Industrial Area was given the go-ahead by the Government of India in August 2024. For factories, warehouses and data centres, the starting point is the ZS-Knot 4 x 2 in Alpha, up to 8 ft, with RTHT and concertina coil: see industrial fencing.

These designs are a starting point for discussion, not for construction; every job is built to its agreed drawing.

What changes on the Konkan coast?

Maharashtra’s coastline was reassessed in 2025 at 877.97 km, and the fisheries census lists seven coastal districts: Palghar, Thane, Mumbai Suburban, Mumbai City, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. A fence within 20 km of the sea, or near chemical works, needs a site-specific recommendation before you order, because sea air is harsher than the C1 to C3 environments SIMO Securon’s rated life assumes: see how rated life is calculated.

Is there a farm fencing subsidy in Maharashtra?

Maharashtra's Dr. Shyamprasad Mukherjee Jan-Van Vikas Yojana pays most of the cost of a solar fence for farms in villages within 2 km of a tiger reserve buffer or protected wildlife area; you apply on MahaDBT. No statewide wire fencing scheme was listed on MahaDBT when we checked. See the figures and the official source.

SIMO Securon does not run these schemes and cannot confirm your eligibility. Many schemes name barbed wire or solar fencing as the fence they pay for, so ask the officer, before you buy, whether a knotted fence qualifies; SIMO Securon can give a quotation and invoice in the form the officer asks for.
